A strong sense of local heritage defines the Rest of NSW, where 81.3% of people were born in Australia. This region is far less diverse than the state average, with a population deeply rooted in English, Australian, and Irish backgrounds.

English and Australian ancestries are the most common, each accounting for about 40% of the population. Irish (11.8%) and Scottish (10.7%) roots also make up a significant part of the local identity.
Australia and the largest overseas communities.
Only 12.2% of residents were born overseas, which is far below the figures for New South Wales (29.3%) and Australia (27.7%). While this is among the lowest rates for any similar area, the proportion of overseas-born residents rose slightly by 1.0 percentage point since 2016.
