West Kimberley ACT
West Kimberley and ACT are two very different regions. In West Kimberley, 54.2% of people speak a First Nations language, which is far higher than the 7.5% in ACT. Income and education for First Nations people also differ sharply; the typical household income for First Nations families is $842 in West Kimberley, while it is far higher in ACT at $2,289. First Nations Year 12 completion is also far higher in ACT at 58.8% compared to 21.5% in West Kimberley.
Both areas have many homes within a 15-minute walk of a park, though this is almost universal in ACT at 99.4%. Everyday life in ACT is very walkable and almost all homes are within a 10-minute walk of public transport, whereas West Kimberley is mostly car-dependent with no homes in that range. The two areas have remained distinct in these patterns, as ACT continues to have a far larger First Nations population and much lower unemployment for that group than West Kimberley.
