Much higher rates of unpaid care than similar areas define Fairy Hill. While nearly 30% of people provide unpaid childcare, the number of residents volunteering for community groups has dropped sharply over the last decade.

Volunteering has fallen 8.8 percentage points since 2011 to 13.1%, a figure that is much lower than most similar areas.

Unpaid work is common here, with 28.3% of people doing 15 or more hours of housework and 14.7% providing general unpaid care, both well above the state and national figures. This is consistent with the 29.5% of residents who care for children unpaid, which is much higher than most other areas.

People who served in the Defence Force make up 4.0% of the population, which is a little above the figures for New South Wales and Australia.
