Huge leaps in schooling and degrees have transformed Exeter since 2011. The proportion of adults with a university degree rose by 28 percentage points over a decade, while Year 12 completion jumped by 35 points. This has created a highly qualified population that stands well above both state and national figures.

Year 12 completion is now at 62.5%, which is well above the New South Wales figure of 58.9% and among the highest for similar areas. This is a sharp increase from 2011, when only 27.2% of residents had finished their final year of school.

A bachelor degree or higher is held by 36.2% of adults, a result well above the national figure of 26.3%. This high level of qualification is driven by 32.4% of residents holding a bachelor degree and another 10.4% with a postgraduate degree.

The most common fields of qualification are society and culture at 16.8%, followed closely by management and commerce at 16.4%. Education and engineering also feature prominently, accounting for 12.8% and 10.8% respectively.
