# Community Participation — Murchison

How people contribute — volunteering, unpaid care and domestic work, and defence service.

Area: Murchison (Council (LGA))

One in four people in Murchison volunteer their time, a rate far above the national figure. This high level of community spirit exists alongside a strong trend of people performing unpaid work at home.

About 25% of residents volunteer, which is much higher than most areas and well above the Western Australian figure. This is a drop from 2011, when 31.1% of the community volunteered.

Unpaid work is common here, with 36.1% of people doing 15 or more hours of housework weekly, far above the national figure. While 30.6% provide unpaid childcare, the 4.2% who provide other unpaid care is among the lowest across the country.

No one in the community has served in the Defence Force, a figure that is a little below the state and national averages.
