There are 366 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the area, which is a smaller number than in about 89% of similar places. Their typical age is 30, making them noticeably older than the state and national figure of 24.

Year 12 completion is low here, with 27.9% of First Nations residents finishing school. This is well below the South Australian figure of 34.7% and the Australian figure of 37.0%.

The unemployment rate for First Nations people is 11.9%, which is around the middle for similar areas. This figure is well below the South Australian rate of 15.6% and about the same as the national figure.
